Don’s Barber Shop helping to build community

Don’s Barber Shop first opened in Ponte Vedra in 1991, and in 2021 Raquel Turnbull took ownership and gave the shop a rebranding.

Don’s Barber Shop is a full-service barbershop that is dedicated to providing great haircuts and a memorable experience. Customers can enjoy an authentic barber chair while getting an old-fashioned, hot lather and straight-edge razor shave.

Turnbull wanted to create something special at Don’s because cutting hair has always been a big part of her life.

“Being a third-generation barberess, barbering is more than a profession to me; it’s part of my family history and who I am. I grew up with an appreciation for the relationships that can be built through this profession and the important role a barber shop can play in people’s lives,” she said.

Turnbull moved to Florida from Ohio because she wanted to build something of her own while still staying true to her family tradition.

“As a single mom raising my son, owning my own business also represented independence, hard work and the opportunity to create a future for us. I wanted to build something I could be proud of, not only as a business owner but also as a mother,” she said.

Don’s Barber Shop specializes in fades, flat tops, beard trims and more. However, Don’s is not just a barber shop, it is a place for people to build community.

“I believe a barber shop is one of those special places where community truly comes to life. Don’s Barber Shop is about much more than haircuts. It’s about connection, conversation, laughter and the relationships that develop when people come through our doors regularly. It’s a place where people can catch up, share stories, talk about their families and feel like they’re among friends,” said Turnbull.
