The JT Townsend Foundation recently partnered with Ocean Palms Elementary School to support the creation of a sensory room, designed to serve the school’s Varying Exceptionalities Program.
Made possible with funding provided by the JT Townsend Foundation, the school acquired specialized equipment to create a dedicated space where students can safely explore, self-regulate and engage in learning activities tailored to their unique needs. The sensory room includes a variety of tools that help students process sensory input, develop communication and focus skills and enjoy meaningful play.
“The sensory room is a wonderful gift for Ocean Palms,” said Assistant Principal Kim Bays. “It provides an opportunity for our students to have some activity, it provides a calming space when needed, and it really allows them to express themselves.”
The JT Townsend Foundation has a long history of supporting this local school. In 2020, they were a founding donor for adaptive equipment on the school’s new playground, and in 2024 they provided specialized equipment to its classrooms for students with varying exceptionalities.
The JT Townsend Foundation was established with the mission of providing hope and assistance to individuals living with disabilities by offering financial support for adaptive equipment and services that often aren’t covered by insurance. Over the years, the foundation has helped hundreds of families throughout the First Coast community by funding equipment such as wheelchairs, mobility devices and other essential adaptive tools that enhance quality of life.
