Dorothy “Dottie” Adams Follett, 98, passed away on September 7, 2026, in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. She was born on April 8, 1928, in New York City.
Dottie grew up in New York City and Weehawken, NJ, and had a lifelong passion for the performing arts, attending Broadway shows, films, and big bands throughout her youth. She graduated from Southern Seminary College in Buena Vista, VA, and began her career with the Burlington Mills Corporation in New York City.
In 1951, she married Edwin “Ed” Follett. They lived in Fort Lee, NJ, before settling in Westhampton Beach, NY, where they raised their three children, Pam, Jeanne, and Edwin Jr., known as “Bud”. Dottie and Ed were active members of Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church and were longtime members of the Swordfish Club. Dottie later worked for the Westhampton Beach School system, first as an administrative assistant and then as Assistant to the Principal of the elementary school.
Dottie loved hosting a full house of family and friends for holidays and birthdays, and had a lifelong love of animals, especially her dogs, Sydney, Bentley, and Mei Ling among her favorites.
In 1989, Dottie and Ed retired to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, where they enjoyed the beach and golf at the Ponte Vedra Club, theatre, and symphony in Jacksonville, and travelling near and far. They were devoted members of Christ Church Episcopal.
Following Ed’s passing in 2011, Dottie, sustained by her faith and loved ones, carried on with the life she loved for fifteen more years, traveling, volunteering at Christ Church, and enjoying lunches, dinners, and the company of family and friends.
Dottie was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a cherished relative and friend, remembered for her joy, warmth, and wry sense of humor.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin Follett. She is survived by her three children, Pamela Follett and her late husband John, Jeanne Steele and her husband Timm, and Bud Follett and his wife Sharon; and by her two grandsons, James Steele and Adam Steele.
Dottie was interred alongside Ed at Westhampton Cemetery on September 26th. A memorial service will be held on November 7th at the Chapel at Vicar's Landing Sawgrass, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
