Village Arts Framing and Gallery will host an artist open house from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Sawgrass Village in Ponte Vedra Beach. Guests are invited to meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments.
Among the artists featured is Missy Vanover, whose paintings draw inspiration from Florida’s coastlines, marshes and gardens. Her work explores the changing interplay of land, sea and sky, with expressive color and richly worked surfaces. She paints in both oil and acrylic, using brushes and palette knives. Her oil paintings often feature thick impasto, while her acrylic work explores patterns and energetic brushstrokes.
Vanover’s love of color and nature began in the rolling hills and gardens of North Carolina’s Piedmont, where she spent time at her grandparents’ home. Later, she studied architectural aspects of interior design at the University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art. Her education in drawing, painting, design and art history — and her early interest in architectural rendering and texture — continues to inform her work.
After graduation, Vanover worked as a residential interior designer in Atlanta while continuing to paint. Now based in Ponte Vedra Beach, she remains active in painting and interior design. The nearby beaches and marshes of Florida’s northern coast, along with family homes in tropical South Florida, are central sources of inspiration. Her work has been exhibited in galleries throughout Florida and coastal Georgia.
The open house offers visitors an opportunity to meet Vanover and other artists, view their work and learn more about the ideas and techniques behind it.
