Nease High School Band presents Winter Concert

On Dec. 9, the Nease Band welcomed all to enjoy a festive night of fun that included an ugly Christmas sweater contest and multiple concerts. Two student-led jazz groups performed, followed by the full jazz ensemble performing a variety of holiday music. After a short intermission, the entire band took the stage and performed a selection of holiday music. It was a fantastic evening full of holiday cheer and festivities including hot chocolate and cookies sold by the Winterguard.

Atlantic Beach Citizens Police Academy returns in January

The best defense against crime is a well-informed, engaged citizenry that trusts and supports its police force.

Atlantic Beach’s Citizens Police Academy is about more than just understanding traffic stops or K-9 operations. It’s about humanizing the badge and recognizing the commitment and sacrifice officers make every day to keep Atlantic Beach safe.

By attending the academy, one becomes a better neighbor, a more informed voice in local discussions and a stronger partner to the Atlantic Beach Police Department.

The cost is $25 per applicant, and with the class limited to 25 participants, spots fill up quickly.

If you've ever wondered how it all works — how an investigation unfolds, how decisions are made in high-stress situations or simply what an officer's day looks like — this is your chance to find the answers.

The registration deadline is Dec. 31.

Pick up an application at the Atlantic Beach Department, 850 Seminole Road, or from Lt. Ed Peck.

Beach exploration planned

Join volunteers at the Guana Tolomato Matanzas (GTM) National Estuarine Research Reserve for a beach exploration from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20.

Collect seashells, search for shark teeth and learn about coastal wildlife.

Meet at the GTM Research Reserve Visitor Center, 505 Guana River Road, Ponte Vedra Beach.

Wear comfortable closed-toe shoes. Hat, insect repellent, water and sunscreen are recommended. The event is free but online registration is required. Register at: gtmnerr.org/calendar.
