At Jacksonville Country Day School, the significance of Veterans Day is brought to life in third-grade social studies, where students study foundational American values, including the rights and freedoms protected by the Bill of Rights, the structure of the U.S. government and the history of national symbols like the American flag and the Pledge of Allegiance. As part of this curriculum, students perform a Veterans Day show that celebrates the contributions of military service members, blending music and history in a tribute to those who have served the country.
This year, the students had an opportunity to perform at the UF Health Veterans Flag Ceremony. Singing songs like the “Armed Forces Medley” and “Thankful for the USA,” they honored veterans in the community through patriotic music and heartfelt messages, adding an extra dimension to their learning experience and building a deep sense of appreciation for those who protect the nation.
