Recent offensive explosion helps Panthers find their groove

The Nease High girls soccer team has successfully carried over the momentum they had at the end of last season following their regional final appearance.

The Panthers have started the season fast with a record of 6-2-1, and after a two-game stretch when they lost to both Tocoi Creek High and Staton Prep on the road 1-0, the Panthers have appeared to have righted the ship thanks to the offense coming alive of late.

They have scored 12 goals in the last three games, including 7-1 and 4-1 victories against Christ’s Church Academy and West Nassau High, respectively, in back-to-back days on Dec. 9 and 10.

Seniors Jess Morley and Isabel Bostic are leading the way in the offense’s recent surge of goals as they provide a veteran presence and an attacking mindset in the offensive zone.

Meanwhile, the defense has been strong as well having only allowed six goals in the nine games played this season.

A major reason for the success has been a combination of senior goalkeeper Amber Jones being a force in the net with her continued development and the amount of support she has from her teammates in front of her.

Senior Taylor Larramore does an excellent job of both creating and maintaining possession in the midfield, while fellow senior Ava Thomas and junior Grace Chaves present a hard line of defense for opposing offenses to try and get past.

Freshman Landry Bower has also made an instant impact as a young player and has contributed to the defensive effort as well.

Just as the Panthers are starting to find their groove in the season, they are also preparing for a long home stand as their next four games will all be played in front of the home faithful after playing just three of their first nine games at the Panther’s Den.

This home cooking will continue into the new year as their next road contest will not be until Jan. 13.
