Writers’ meeting to focus on injecting humor

Everyone needs a laugh, and it may sound funny, but adding humor to your writing can strike a positive chord with the reader. The question is knowing when to reach for a laugh, and Kevin Pettway has the answer.

Pettway will deliver a workshop on how to inject humor into your writing at the Ponte Vedra Writers meeting at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

In his workshop, “Humor in Writing: How to Create Funny Murders, Monsters, and Romances, and Why You Should,” Pettway will discuss the different kinds of humor, when to employ it, and where to use it. He admits that “reaching for a laugh isn’t always as easy as adding another point to your love triangle, but humor is critical no matter what genre you write in.”

Pettway is the author of the “Misplaced Mercenaries” novels, a five-book series that kicked off the wider “Misplaced Adventures” expanded universe, currently boasting six additional series and going strong. He is featured in several anthologies, including “Last Night at the Jolly Chicken,” which serves as an introduction to the entire “Misplaced Adventures” project. Pettway lives in the Riverside neighborhood of Jacksonville with his wife Lena, and his dog River, who is the real funny one in the family.

The Ponte Vedra Writers group is part of the Florida Writers Association, a statewide, membership organization dedicated to the support of both aspiring and published writers in any genre. The Feb. 22 meeting is free and open to members and non-members alike.
