Women Build Habitat planned for March 7-8

On Friday, March 7, and Saturday, March 8, Habitat for Humanity of St. Augustine/St. Johns County (Habitat St. Johns) joins Habitat International affiliates around the world in hosting Women Build days. Female volunteers will work on houses being constructed in the Volusia Woods neighborhood on Josiah Street in West Augustine.

This year’s sponsors are FPL and the Raintree Restaurant. Volunteers will receive a Women Build T-shirt and a catered lunch.

On Friday, a smaller volunteer crew is expected. On Saturday — International Women’s Day — 30 female volunteers will be working on three houses. The build hours for both days are 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Habitat St. Johns provides tools and training.

“Each year the Women Build community shows up to help more women overcome the gender barriers to homeownership,” said Executive Director Malinda Everson. “Over 60% of Habitat’s future homebuyers are women. At Habitat St. Johns, we know that stable affordable housing is transformative for all families.”
