Whittle is Butterfield artist for July

Butterfield Garage Art Gallery’s Artist of the Month for July will be Christy Whittle, who joined the gallery in January.

Christy is a professional artist who has been painting and drawing for as long as she can remember. Art has always been her way of connecting with the world; she is drawn to romanticizing the everyday and bringing her imagination to life through her work.

Whether capturing a quiet moment, a familiar face or a dreamlike landscape, she strives to convey beauty and emotion in every piece she creates. Over the years, Christy has completed more than 50 commissioned paintings, including pet portraits, human portraits, landscapes and still lifes. Each piece is a personal journey, and she deeply enjoys the challenge of translating someone else’s vision into a meaningful work of art on canvas.

“My theme for the show will be birds,” according to Whittle. “My dad was a birdwatcher, and he taught me how to identify birds by their songs and calls. Through those moments with him, birds became something deeply meaningful to me — symbols of memory, peace and connection to nature. Ever since then, they’ve brought me a sense of joy, wonder and comfort that continues to inspire my work today.”

Butterfield Garage Art Gallery is located at 137 King St., St. Augustine.
