The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary (VFWA) 7909 was recently recognized by community volunteers for decades of exceptional service. This auxiliary was commended for consistently, compassionately and quickly responding to the emerging needs of veterans, military and the Northeast Florida community.

Many residents are aware of the extraordinary patriotic and fraternal roles of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliaries in our communities. VFWA 7909 exceeded expectations. They awarded youth scholarships, sponsored the Young Marines program, assisted homeless veterans and those in nursing homes and hospitals, adopted a road for cleanup, commended businesses displaying our country’s flag and even reached halfway around the world to help troops in South Korea struggling with family food insecurities at the U. S. Army Garrison Humphreys.

“Their ‘can do’ spirit to extend helping hands has earned the gratitude and testimonials of countless people,” said Beth Heath, president of We Can Be Heroes Foundation. “From hurricanes, floods and fires to the general well-being of veterans and families, the auxiliary quickly responded with food, goods and help.”
