Vested Metals Charity Golf Tournament is April 28

When the new year kicked off, Viv Helwig and his team started preparing for their annual charity golf tournament in memory of colleague John Mark Leach. It didn’t take long for them to realize that the event had grown faster and larger than they originally thought possible.

This year, Helwig’s company, Vested Metals International, a specialty metals and steel supplier based in St. Augustine, unveils The Southeast Coil Classic. The Southeast Coil Classic, held on April 28 at Marsh Creek Country Club in St. Augustine, will continue to celebrate the legacy of John Mark Leach and the passion he had for helping others.

“For the past two years, we’ve raised money for nonprofits that benefit youth and their families,” explained Helwig, founder of Vested Metals International. “The first inaugural tournament took place in March 2023 and raised more than $60,000. Last year, we had more than 200 supporters and raised over $70,000.”

Part of Vested Metals’ mission is helping the next generation, with a core value of “People Are Forever.” It drives their generosity, where 100% of the tournament’s proceeds from sponsorships, ticket sales and additional donations go to their beneficiaries, which include United Way of St. Johns County, Adaptive Superstars, Flagler College, Safe Families for Children, K9s For Warriors, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Boys & Girls Clubs.

“Our company is passionate about service, with the goal of achieving a $1 million donation milestone by 2033,” shared Helwig.

He and his team are thrilled to build upon the momentum of the past two years, and this year are calling for sponsors to make an even bigger impact. Sponsorship starts at $1,500, with more than a dozen more opportunities and a top presenting sponsorship at $10,000.

The event will kick off at noon with a shotgun start. The 18-hole, four-person scramble features the chance to win a car with a “Hole-in-One,” and there’s also a Longest Drive contest and complimentary on-course snacks and beverages.

At 5 p.m., there will be a post-event reception (complete with live music and a cigar roller) to announce winners, present contest prizes, recognize beneficiaries and honor the Leach Family.

Tickets can be purchased at vestedmetals.net/golf, and donations are welcome for those who cannot attend.
