Open mic meeting planned for local writers

Posted

Area writers can share their work at the annual open mic meeting of the Ponte Vedra Writers at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

Writing is often a solitary craft, demanding focus and reflection. Sharing that work in an open mic setting, however, offers writers encouragement, constructive feedback and a sense of community. This meeting is open to writers of all genres — poetry, fiction and nonfiction. Depending on the number of participants, each reader will have approximately eight to 12 minutes to share their work. Advance notice is required for those who wish to participate to ensure adequate time for everyone. Please email group leader Vic DiGenti at vicdig@mac.com if you plan to participate.

Refreshments will be served, and the meeting will include a book exchange. Those attending may bring one or two like-new books to share with others. Any books not taken will be donated to Seymour’s, the library’s bookstore.

The Ponte Vedra Writers group is affiliated with the Florida Writers Association, a statewide, nonprofit organization dedicated to the support of both aspiring and published writers in any genre. The Dec. 20 meeting is free and open to members and nonmembers alike. For information on FWA, go to floridawriters.org.
