On Thursday, Dec. 4, Florida Power & Light Company’s (FPL) “elves” worked their magic, decorating a family’s home for the holidays with thousands of sparkling LED lights, solar-powered displays and other energy-efficient décor.
An annual festive tradition, this celebration marks the 18th consecutive year of FPL’s holiday program, which gives back to local heroes for their commitment to the nation and their community.
This year’s project marked a joyous moment for local U.S Navy veteran La’Kinya Wright and her daughter.
Wright began her Navy career in 2001 as an undesignated airman stationed in Norfolk, Virginia, where she served as a maintenance technician supporting a fleet of MH-53E aircraft.
She played a vital role in mission readiness, contributing to airborne mine countermeasure operations, fleet training and logistics support for the command.
Today, as a single mother, Wright brings that same perseverance and strength to building a loving home for her daughter, inspiring everyone around her with her positivity.
To thank Wright for her service, FPL transformed her home into an energy-efficient holiday wonderland. Volunteers decorated her front yard with LEDs, solar-powered lights and other energy-efficient décor.
FPL worked with Hope4Veterans to honor Wright and thank her for her service.
