Student group donates $1,900 to Women’s Board

I have always heard in my many years volunteering with The Women’s Board of Wolfson Children’s Hospital that we are sprinkled with pixie dust. We were started with a mission and 41 determined women, and the pixie dust has sprinkled us for more than 50 years. We have raised more than $37.5 million dollars over that time frame.

With that said, I want to tell a story about a young woman from Douglas Anderson School of the Arts (D.A.). Ava Chung is the president of the National Honor Society at Douglas Anderson. She is a senior who will be attending Columbia in the fall seeking a political science degree with hopes of attending law school. She also was accepted into the Columbia Scholar program, which only accepts a small group of students.

Out of the blue, Ava reached out to me asking if the National Honor Society at D.A. could give The Women’s Board of Wolfson Children’s Hospital all the proceeds from their annual dinner. Ava has been volunteering with The Women’s Board for the last three years at our annual event, The First Coast Design Show. I was honored to attend their annual dinner and was amazed by the drive and enthusiasm she had for Wolfson Children’s Hospital. Every time she got up to speak during dinner, she passionately asked for money for the hospital. They raised more than $1,900 that evening, which was the most they have ever raised in the history of the National Honor Society at D.A.

We are so honored to have such philanthropic young people in our community that want to give back.
