St. Johns County high school football recap

This past week brought a lot of wet weather to the First Coast, however there was still some high school football action on Friday, Oct. 10.

The Ponte Vedra Sharks defeated the Middleburg Broncos 41-14. Going into the contest, the Broncos were undefeated, but now thanks to the Sharks their record is 6-1.

The Sharks were firing on all cylinders as the offense, defense and special teams all did their part to contribute to the victory. Noah Ash was perfect on all on his kicks. He went 5-5 on extra points attempts, 2-2 on field goal tries with his longest from 46 yards. Cole Rosendahl completed 21 of his 35 passes for 212 yards and threw for two touchdowns. Alex Winkles had 90 yards and two touchdowns and Fion Day intercepted a pair of Bronco passes to spearhead the defense. Day’s two picks were two of three by a Shark defender with the other being an interception by Cooper Sobiecki that he returned 57 yards. The Sharks put the game away in the third quarter with three touchdowns.

This was the third win in a row for the Sharks whose current record is 5-2. They will return home on Oct. 17 to take on the Orange Park Raiders.

The Creekside Knights have now won three in a row as they defeated the Atlantic Coast Stingrays 35-6. Quarterback Rozzi Sperry threw for 57 yards and two touchdowns and had one rushing touchdown. Creekside’s record is now 4-4, and they will be on the road on Oct. 17 to take on the Raines Vikings.

The Nease Panthers defeated the Bartram Trail Bears 10-0. Enrique Ordonez rushed for 151 yards and is now averaging 107 rushing yards per game for Nease. The Panthers defense had a strong performance on the night with five sacks on the Bears quarterback. The Panthers record is currently 5-2 and they will be on the road on Oct. 17 against Atlantic Coast.
