Here’s a look at some of the activities being offered this month at area senior centers.

THE PLAYERS COMMUNITY SENIOR CENTER

The following programs will be held at COA’s THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center, 175 Landrum Lane, Ponte Vedra Beach, beginning in July. If you have questions, call the center at 904-209-3659. For more information, go to coasjc.org/ponte-vedra-center. 

Lunch — Tuesdays: From noon to 1 p.m. Registration is required a week in advance, and the required fee is $5 per meal, due upon arrival.

Open Painting: From 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays. No fee is required; Bring your own supplies. 

Chair Exercise — Tuesdays: 9:30 to 10 a.m.

Tai Chi (Beginner) w/Dennis Sheils: 10-11 a.m. Thursdays 

Canasta - Tuesdays:  4 weeks starting Tuesday, July 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  

Canasta - Thursdays:  5 weeks starting Thursday, July 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Mexican Train Dominoes:  4 weeks on Tuesdays, starting July 7, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Mexican Train Dominoes:  5 weeks on Thursdays, starting July 2, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. (Second Thursday of the month, program ends at 11 a.m.)                           

Bingo — Tuesdays:  1-2 p.m. Fee is $1 per card.

Bingo - Thursdays:  1-2 p.m. Fee is $1 per card.

Social Bridge: 9:30 a.m. to noon Wednesdays

Let’s Play Board Games: Rummikub, Scrabble, Yahtzee, cards and more! Enjoy socializing and making new friends while participating in some friendly competition; from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays.

Wii Bowling: 10-11 a.m. Thursdays

Computer Room: Available Tuesdays through Fridays during open hours; general assistance available.

“Americana Jeopardy”:  Our 250th birthday celebration continues as we test your knowledge of this beautiful country we call home. This is a fun way to meet new people and help your team win a prize!  Thursday, July 9, from 11 a.m. to noon. 

“Simplify and Thrive; Is It Time to Right-Size Your Life?”: Presented by Windsor Pointe’s sales director, Jennifer Cooper. A fun craft will be incorporated into the hour as well on Tuesday, July 14, from 11 a.m. to noon

“Fun & Sundaes”: Learn a new game and cool off with an ice cream sundae! We’ll show you and your friends how to play several fun and easy games. And everyone’s a winner with a trip to our ice cream sundae bar! Thursday, July 16, from 11 a.m. to noon.

“The Violin Studio”: Jacksonville Symphony’s award-winning violinist Ingang Han brings his group of young students to perform. This could be your chance to hear the symphony’s future talent on Tuesday, July 21, from 11 a.m. to noon.

“Blue Hawaii Birthday Party”: You guessed it! Randy Elvis is back with songs from the musical/comedy featuring the king himself! Dress in your favorite tropical attire and come ready to sing and dance as we celebrate our July birthdays on Thursday, July 23, from 11 a.m. to noon.

“Fall Prevention and Home Safety”: Deborah Gordon, DPT from 4 Sight Consulting Group will not only provide helpful information, but also handouts and exercises. Tuesday, July 28, from 11 a.m. to noon.

“Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program”: Tracy Dillon with the St. Johns County Health and Human Services Department will discuss how EHEAP can assist seniors 60-plus with past-due electric bills who have service with JEA and FPL on Thursday, July 30, from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

RIVER HOUSE, ST. AUGUSTINE

Council on Aging has announced the following programs will be held at COA’s River House, 179 Marine St., St. Augustine, beginning in July. Mahjong Open Play — Bring your Mahjong game to play. Mondays from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Happy Hookers — Join this social group as they crochet, knit, etc. Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

One-on-One Tech Help — One-on-one help for your smart phone, tablet or laptop questions on Tuesday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call 904-209-3655 to reserve a one-hour spot.

Remembering with Love — A time and place for remembering those we lost with love through grief support on Tuesdays from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m.

Widow to Widow — Join us for a support group for widows by widows, Wednesdays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

SADC (Deaf) Group Meeting – Meets on the second and fourth Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon.

“Art For Arts Sake” — we will be observing, analyzing and enjoying some fifteen contemporary art works. David Ouellette will make a presentation explaining verbally, as possible, what goes on during the creative process in the studio and the end results that produce a work of art. In this open-house format there will be time for discussions, questions and answers. Thursday, July 16, from 9:45 to 11:45 a.m.

Open Game Play — Bring your deck of cards or your board game and socialize over a friendly game of your choosing. There are games available at River House. Every Thursday from 12:15 to 3:15 p.m.
