The Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach celebrated a year of service and leadership during its annual Passing of the Gavel ceremony June 25 at Marsh Landing Country Club, officially installing Jennifer Ryan, CEO of Volunteers in Medicine, as the club’s new president.
Ryan succeeds outgoing President Chris Eckols, who reflected on the club’s accomplishments over the past year and thanked members for their commitment to Rotary’s guiding principle of “Service Above Self.”
During the ceremony, Eckols recognized numerous members for their outstanding contributions throughout the year. Tim Delp received the club’s Rotarian of the Year Award, honoring exemplary service and dedication to Rotary’s mission. Cara Roach was named Rookie of the Year in recognition of her enthusiasm and immediate impact during her first year as a Rotarian.
The ceremony also included a heartfelt tribute to Past President Ed Waller, who passed away June 23. A retired U.S. Navy captain, Waller served as club president during the 2006-07 Rotary year and was remembered for his steadfast leadership, generosity and commitment to service. Family members attending the ceremony included his daughter, Navy Commander Kelly Waller Agha, and son-in-law Joe Malzacher.
