PLAYERS Round Two: Some statistics from Friday, March 10

Play was suspended at 4:27 p.m. Friday due to inclement weather. The second round will resume at 7 a.m. Saturday. No players in the afternoon wave finished their round, and total of 71 players remain on the golf course. Third-round tee times will be approximately 10:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. in threesomes off Nos. 1 and 10.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout (through No. 14) and first-timer Adam Svensson (through No. 11) share the lead at 8-under at the time of suspension of play.

PGA TOUR rookie Ben Griffin (67-71—138), making his tournament debut, is the leader among those who finished the round Friday. Right behind Griffin on the leaderboard is Min Woo Lee at 6-under (through No. 15).

Three players in the top 15 of the Official World Golf Ranking are T8 or better: Collin Morikawa (T3/No. 10), Scottie Scheffler (No. 2/T6) and Viktor Hovland (No. 11/T8)

Chad Ramey, who led at completion of the first round, played his final three holes prior to the suspension in 5-over, including a quadruple bogey at the 17th.

FedExCup leader and World No. 1 Jon Rahm withdrew before the start of his round due to illness.

Here are some statistical notes provided by THE PLAYERS Championship:

  • Making his PLAYERS Championship debut, Griffin (T3) records a second-round 71 and is the leader in the clubhouse. Griffin is making his 14th start of the season and his best finish is T3 (2022 Butterfield Bermuda Championship).
  • Morikawa (T3) is seeking his first victory of the season after three top-10s in his last five starts.
  • In his third start at THE PLAYERS, World No. 2 Scottie Scheffler is currently T6 (-1 thru 10 in the second round)
  • Three-time PGA TOUR winner Jerry Kelly (T68/+2), 56, would become the oldest player to make the cut in PLAYERS Championship history if the cut moves to 2-over. The current oldest is Arnold Palmer at 55 years, 6 months, 19 days in 1985.

Twenty-one balls went into the water at No. 17 Friday by the time play was suspended.

Morgan Stanley Eagles for Impact Challenge

As part of its Eagles for Impact Challenge, Morgan Stanley will donate $5,000 to First Tee for every eagle made at THE PLAYERS. First Tee is a youth development organization that enables kids to build the strength of character that empowers them through a lifetime of new challenges. The donation would help support the recruitment, development and retention of diverse coaches to mentor the next generation.

In Round One, players made 12 eagles, generating a donation of $60,000. In Round Two, players made eight eagles for a donation of $40,000.
