PLAYERS Community Senior Center announces June schedule

The following programs will be held at COA’s THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center, 175 Landrum Lane, Ponte Vedra Beach, beginning in June. Most activities are weekly and will begin on June 2. Note the center is closed on Friday, June 19, for the Juneteenth holiday. For information, call the center at 904-209-3659 or go to www.coasjc.org/ponte-vedra-center. 

  • Lunch -- Tuesdays: Five weeks starting Tuesday, June 2, from noon to 1 p.m. Registration is required a week in advance and the required fee is $5 per meal, due upon arrival.
  • Lunch -- Thursdays: Four weeks starting Thursday, June 4, from noon to 1 p.m. Registration is required a week in advance and the required fee is $5 per meal, due upon arrival.
  • Duplicate Bridge: Three weeks on Fridays, starting June 5, from noon to 3 p.m. Required fee is $2 per person, per Friday. You must have a partner and experience to play.
  • Tap Dance Class: Instructor Ginny Wirzbicki brings much experience to this style of dance and encourages all levels to participate or learn. Three weeks on Fridays, starting June 5, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Fee required is $6.25 per class.
  • Hisshin Sumi-e Painting Class: Traditional East Asian Brush Painting. This class meets the second Thursday of every month (June 11) from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fee required is $3 per person.
  • Open Painting: Four weeks on Wednesdays, starting June 3, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. No fee required; bring your own supplies. 
  • Caregiver Support Group (Free Program): The group is open to all adult caregivers; meets once a month, on the first Wednesday of each month. Next date is Wednesday, June 3, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. 
  • Chair Exercise -- Tuesdays: Five weeks starting Tuesday, June 2, from 9:30 to 10 a.m.
  • Chair Exercise -- Thursdays: Four weeks starting Thursday, June 4, from 9:30 to 10 a.m.
  • Tai Chi (Beginner) w/Dennis Sheils: Four Thursdays, starting June 4, from 10 to 11 a.m.   
  • Canasta -- Tuesdays: Five weeks starting Tuesday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to noon  
  • Canasta -- Thursdays: Four weeks starting Thursday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to noon
  • Mexican Train Dominoes: Five weeks on Tuesdays, starting June 2, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
  • Mexican Train Dominoes: Four weeks on Thursdays, starting June 4, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. (second Thursday of the month, program ends at 11 a.m.)
  • Bingo -- Tuesdays: Five weeks starting Tuesday, June 2, from 1 to 2 p.m. Fee is $1 per card.
  • Bingo -- Thursdays: Four weeks starting Thursday, June 4, from 1 to 2 p.m.  Fee is $1 per card.
  • Social Bridge: Four weeks on Wednesdays, starting June 3, from 9:30 a.m. to noon
  • Let’s Play Board Games: Rummikub, Scrabble, Yahtzee, cards, and more. Enjoy socializing and making new friends while participating in some friendly competition; four weeks on Wednesdays, starting June 3, from 10 a.m. to noon
  • Individual Rotation Duplicate Bridge (Experienced): Four weeks on Wednesdays, starting June 3, from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Required fee is $2 per person.
  • Wii Bowling: Four weeks on Thursdays, starting June 4, from 10 to 11 a.m.
  • Computer Room: Available Tuesdays through Fridays during open hours; general assistance available.
  • Ballroom Basics: Join volunteer Scott Adkins who will show you the basic steps of ballroom dance (waltz, foxtrot, rumba). No partner is needed. However, comfortable shoes are a must (leather soles are best). Ballroom dance has been proven to be one of the best activities to promote brain health. Four weeks on Thursdays, starting June 4, from 11 a.m. to noon
  • HOLBODY PT: Dr. Andrew Salinas provides a multifaceted and holistic approach to physical therapy. Learn about nutrition, our environment, movement patterns and lifestyle choices can reduce injuries and adverse health events. Tuesday, June 2, from 11 a.m. to noon
  • Chefs for Seniors: Do you enjoy home cooking but no longer have the ability to prepare nutritious meals? Chefs for Seniors seeks to improve the independent lives seniors desire by preparing high quality, affordable meals in your own kitchen. Come get the scoop on Thursday, June 4, from 11 a.m. to noon
  • Tap Revue: Tap dance instructor Ginny Wirzbicki along with other tappers entertain you with the art of this dance. Your feet will be tapping on Tuesday, June 9, from 11 a.m. to noon. Plus, enjoy a special piano performance.
  • AARP Smart Driver: It’s that time! This six-hour comprehensive safe driving program for drivers 50-plus refreshes driving skills, teaches new safety technology and can earn discounts on your auto insurance. Register in-person or by calling the senior center at 904-209-3657. Fee is $20 for AARP members and $25 for nonmembers (cash or check payable to AARP) and due at the first class. Dates are Tuesday, June 9, and Thursday, June 11, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
  • Chair Volleyball Birthday Party: CarePlus Sales Representative Nelson Correa is “serving” up some fun, exercise and cake on Thursday, June 11, from 11 a.m. to noon. No experience necessary to play!
  • Washington Innerverse of Health: Founder Kevin Washington explains how WIH can provide structured, compassionate and practical support to individuals and families who struggle navigating health systems and life transitions. Tuesday, June 16, from 11 a.m. to noon
  • SJC Parks & Recreation: Director Ryan Kane is here to inform everyone of the various recreation parks throughout St. Johns County, including their amenities and program offerings. Find a new place to explore on Thursday, June 18, from 11 a.m. to noon
  • SJC Supervisor of Elections: Vicky Oakes is onsite to answer any questions you may have regarding the upcoming fall election season. Tuesday, June 23, from 11 a.m. to noon
  • Monthly Craft: Nothing says “summertime” in Ponte Vedra Beach than seashells! We’ll be crafting them into pretty trinket dishes on Thursday, June 25, from 10 to 11 a.m.
  • Heat Safety & Emergency Preparedness: Brooklyn Santiago, sales director from Starling at Ponte Vedra, gives us another informative presentation and answers any questions you may have about her senior living facility. Thursday, June 25, from 11 a.m. to noon
  • Helpful Home Tools & Safety Tips: Expanding on her March visit, Crystal Carr with BetteReliefcare goes more in depth on helpful home technology and safety tools to make everyday living easier. Tuesday, June 30, from 11 a.m. to noon
