PLAYERS Community Senior Center announces January schedule

The following programs will be held at COA’s THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center, 175 Landrum Lane, Ponte Vedra Beach, beginning in January 2025. Most classes are five weeks long and begin the first week of January.  If you have any questions, call the center at 904-209-3659.

Lunch — Tuesdays: four weeks starting Tuesday, Jan. 7, from noon to 1 p.m. Registration required a week in advance and fee required — $5 per meal.

Lunch — Thursdays: five weeks starting Thursday, Jan. 2, from noon to 1 p.m. Registration required a week in advance and fee required — $5 per meal.

Duplicate Bridge: five weeks starting Friday, Jan. 3, from noon to 3 p.m. Fee required — $2 per person, per Friday. You must have a partner.

Line Dancing Class: Instructor Will Oglesby teaches participants many different line dances with a good selection of music, while having fun. Open to all adults and experience levels. Four weeks starting Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Registration and fee required — $37.50 per month or $9 per class.

Tap Dance Class: Instructor Ginny Wirzbicki brings much experience to this style of dance and encourages all different levels of dance to learn. Five weeks starting Friday, Jan. 3, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Registration and fee required — $18.75 or $6.25 per class.

Hisshin Sumi-E Painting Class: Traditional East Asian brush painting. This class typically meets once a month. This month the date is Thursday, Jan. 9. Class is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fee required — $3 per person.

Acrylic Painting: four weeks starting Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon. No fee required. Instructor on site Wednesday, Jan. 15.

Caregiver Support Group (free program) — Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The group is open to all adult caregivers; meets once a month, on the first Wednesday of each month. Register with the Alzheimer’s Association at 800-272-3900.

Chair Exercise — Tuesdays: four weeks starting Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 9:30 to 10 a.m.

Chair Exercise — Thursdays: five weeks starting Thursday, Jan. 2, from 9:30 to 10 a.m.

Tai Chi: five weeks starting Thursday, Jan. 2, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Canasta — Tuesdays: four weeks starting Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 10 a.m. to noon.  

Canasta — Thursdays: five weeks starting Thursday, Jan. 9, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Mexican Train Dominoes: four weeks starting Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Ask a Nurse: four weeks starting Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Bingo — Tuesdays: four weeks starting Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 1 to 2 p.m.

Bingo — Thursdays: five weeks starting Thursday, Jan. 9, from 1 to 2 p.m.

Social Bridge: four weeks starting Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Board Game Playing: four weeks starting Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Wii Bowling: five weeks starting Thursday, Jan. 9, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Stroke Awareness: Jennifer Harrell RN with UF Health Jacksonville will present the signs and symptoms of stroke and how to react. Thursday, Jan. 2, from 11 a.m. to noon. Start the new year out right with new information. Light refreshments provided. Free.

Miracle Ear: Meet Lisa Ledbury, hearing aid specialist, on Tuesday, Jan. 7, from 11 a.m. to noon. She will be available to clean and inspect hearing aids (any manufacturer) as well as ears and can perform some light hearing tests. Call 904-209-3659 to make an appointment. Free.

Scott Adkins Photography: Scott is a COA meals on wheels volunteer and photographer who has volunteered to take photographs (head shots) of members on Thursday, Jan. 9, from 11 a.m. to noon. Two prints will be provided, one for THE PLAYERS Senior Center members gallery and one to take home. Free.

Birthday Party! Join everyone for cake and ice cream. Lou Parisi will entertain. Tuesday, Jan. 14, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Piano Recital: Levi Gobin is blind, determined and totally fearless. And lucky for THE PLAYERS, he’s going to entertain! Drop in for this uplifting and inspiring event and leave with a smile. Tuesday, Jan. 21, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Jeopardy Trivia! If you like trivia, this is the event for you. Join a table/team and compete for fun prizes. This popular event will be held on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 11 a.m. to noon. Free.

Check Your Blood Pressure with Diane DeCarlo: Thursday, Jan. 23, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Free.

Lunar New Year Party: Come celebrate the Year of the Snake with Nelson Carrera of Humana/CarePlus. Asian food, games, prizes and fortune cookies. Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 11 a.m. to noon. Free.
