PLAYERS Community Senior Center announces April schedule

The following programs will be held at COA’s THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center, 175 Landrum Lane, Ponte Vedra Beach, beginning in April. Most classes are four weeks long and begin April 1. If you have any questions, call the center at 904-209-3659.

Lunch — Tuesdays: Five weeks starting Tuesday, April 1, from noon to 1 p.m. Registration is required a week in advance and the required fee is $5 per meal due upon arrival.

Lunch — Thursdays: Four weeks starting Thursday, April 3, from noon to 1 p.m. Registration is required a week in advance and the required fee is $5 per meal due upon arrival.

Duplicate Bridge: Four weeks starting Friday, April 4, from noon to 3 p.m. Required fee is $2 per person, per Friday. You must have a partner and experience to play.

Line Dance Class: Instructor Will Oglesby teaches you many different line dances to a variety of upbeat music. Open to all adults and experience levels. Five weeks starting Wednesday, April 2, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Fee required is $9 per class or $37.50 per month (includes months with five weeks).

Tap Dance Class: Instructor Ginny Wirzbicki brings much experience to this style of dance and encourages all levels to participate or learn. Three weeks starting Friday, April 4, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Fee required is $6.25 per class or $25 per month (includes months with five weeks).

Hisshin Sumi-E Painting Class: Traditional East Asian brush painting. This class typically meets the second Thursday of every month and is scheduled for April 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fee required is $3 per person.

Acrylic Painting: Five weeks starting Wednesday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to noon. No fee required. Instructor on site Wednesday, April 9.

Caregiver Support Group (free program): The group is open to all adult caregivers It meets once a month, on the first Wednesday of each month. Next date is Wednesday, April 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Register with the Alzheimer’s Association at 800-272-3900.

Chair Exercise — Tuesdays: Five weeks starting Tuesday, April 1, from 9:30 to 10 a.m.

Chair Exercise — Thursdays: Four weeks starting Thursday, April 3, from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m.

Canasta — Tuesdays: Five weeks starting Tuesday, April 1, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Mexican Train Dominoes: Five weeks starting Tuesday, April 1, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Free Blood Pressure Check with Diane DeCarlo: 10-11 a.m. Thursday, April 24.

Bingo — Tuesdays: Five weeks starting 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1. Fee is $1 per card

Bingo — Thursdays: Four weeks starting 1-2 p.m. Thursday, April 3. Fee is $1 per card

Social Bridge: Five weeks starting Wednesday, April 2, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Let’s Play Board Games: Rummikub, Scrabble, Yahtzee, cards and more! Enjoy socializing and making new friends while participating in some friendly competition. Five weeks starting Wednesday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Wii Bowling: Four weeks starting 10-11 a.m. Thursday, April 3.

Computer Room: Available Tuesdays through Fridays during open hours; general assistance available

Mingle Moment: Time to review the center’s guidelines and best practices and get creative! Brainstorm some fresh ideas to bring new activities to the center. What interests you? Would you like to lead a group? Share your suggestions for upcoming presentations/entertainers, etc. Attendees will be playing a little trivia with prizes, too! Tuesday, April 1, from 11 a.m. to noon.

National “Self-Care” Day hosted by CarePlus: National “Self-Care Day” is observed every year in the United States on April 5 to recognize that self-care is the basis to good health. This year, the center will observe this day on Thursday, April 3, from 11 a.m. to noon with Nelson Correa, who will pamper you with manicures by Amour Mobile Nails.

Beaches Energy: This informative presentation by Ty Glynn, utility auditing and conservation lead with Beaches Energy, will disclose where Beaches gets their energy, how to read your bill and provide information about which appliances use the most energy. Want to save on your energy bill? See if their rebate program can help you! Tuesday, April 8, from 11 a.m. to noon.   

Q & A with Clerk Patty: Brandon Patty, clerk of circuit court and comptroller for St. Johns County, will help prevent attendees from property fraud. Patty will also take questions and provide general information on the upcoming PAFR. Thursday, April 10, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Demystifying Fixed Income: What better way to spend “Tax Day” than by exploring today’s investment landscape and financial opportunities! Join financial adviser James Cargill, along with John Kronour from Pimco Investments, who will help keep attendees “ahead of the curve.” Tuesday, April 15, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Happy Birthday, April Babies: The unforgettable Lisi Victoria is back to entertain, hosted by CarePlus. Enjoy cake and ice cream as everyone celebrates the very special you! Thursday, April 17, from 11 to noon. 

Identity Fraud Prevention: Meet Cindy Michel of VyStar Credit Union and learn how to avoid financial scams and fraud. Tuesday, April 22, from 11 a.m. to noon.

St. John’s County Legal Aid: “Rights of a Debtor” will be presented by Megan Wall, managing attorney for St. Johns County Legal Aid. Take advantage of this important lecture and bring your questions on Thursday, April 24, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Crafts with Carmen: Discover your artistic side as you “decoupage” terracotta pots. This form of craft involves decorating objects by gluing cutouts onto them, then finishing with a coat of varnish or lacquer. Carmen Carreras, sales rep for The Windsor at San Pablo, is the host. Tuesday, April 29, from 11 a.m. to noon.

River House Bus Trip: Tap dancers will perform in a spring dance at the River House in St. Augustine. Lunch will be provided upon return. Show begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 30. Bus transportation will be provided from this center, departure time TBD. No fee. However, sign-up is required.
