Pine Castle plans open house, caregiver resource fair

Pine Castle, one of Northeast Florida's leading agencies that serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, will host its inaugural open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10. With openings available for an additional 200 new participants to enroll in the Academy Pathways Day Program, caregivers and their loved ones are invited to learn more about Pine Castle’s programs and services by visiting the 10-acre, college-like campus at 4911 Spring Park Road, Jacksonville. In addition to receiving information about Pine Castle, attendees will also have the opportunity to mingle and network with local partners and organizations that support the IDD community.

Grief support group to meet

A grief support group meets on the third Wednesday of every month at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Room 107 of the Family Life Center, 578 First Avenue N., Jacksonville Beach.  The group is for men and women grieving the death of a family member or friend.  The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 18. Palm Valley Market every Tuesday

The Palm Valley Market is held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday inside the Palm Valley Community Center, 148 Canal Road. The market offers fresh produce, baked goods, local honey, tea, seasonal treats, soap, jewelry, plants and more.

Amelia Island wins six awards for outstanding tourism marketing

During the Florida Governor’s Conference on Tourism (Aug. 28-30) in Tampa, the Amelia Island Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) won a total of six awards for outstanding tourism marketing in VISIT FLORIDA’s 2024 Flagler Awards. The CVB took top honors in four categories.

The CVB won Henry Awards for its quarterly meeting planner emails (Resource/Promotional Material-Trade), USAE & Northstar third-party emails (Direct Marketing), digital ads with Padsquad (Mobile Marketing) and iHeart Podcast (Radio Advertising). Bronze Awards were presented for the CVB’s blog campaign (Social Media Marketing) and AmeliaIsland.com (Websites).

As the state’s annual tourism marketing competition, the Flagler Awards recognize Florida’s travel businesses and organizations that demonstrate outstanding tourism marketing efforts. Each year, the Flagler Awards honor many of the countless individuals and organizations that help position Florida as a premier travel destination and pay tribute to the determined efforts of those who help ensure the continued success of the state’s most important industry.

Concert planned at Beluthahatchee

The next Sundays at Stetson’s concert at 2 p.m. Sept. 8 features Larry Mangum. Reservations are not required, but there will be limited seating inside only — arrive early to guarantee your seat. Larry Magnum, a Floridian since 1970, known for his butter-smooth voice, has released 10 albums of original music and two live albums since 1980. An award-winning songwriter, he writes from a keen sense of observation and experience capturing the moments that reveal the human truths that bind us all together. An evening of Magnum’s songs is an emotional roller coaster touching the heart, the mind and the soul that stays with the listener long after the performance.
