The Municipal Service District (MSD) of Ponte Vedra Beach held their monthly meeting on Oct. 13 at the Ponte Vedra Branch Library.
There was a representative from the library present who kicked off the meeting with some library updates. There is now a free library at Mickler’s Beach Landing Park that the Ponte Vedra library staff checks weekly to make sure it is fully replenished. The box contains materials for adults and youth. The public may also add to the box if they have gently used books to donate. There is now a Veterans Museum history kiosk in the library where guests can hear 2- to 3-minute stories about local veterans. The library now has access to materials from other libraries in Martin County and Clay County, so guests have increased borrowing power. The number of e-books and e-audio books that can be checked out each month has also increased. The library is now open seven days a week and the library representative said it is important that everyone has a library card.
“We are here to serve all of your family’s literacy and ongoing educational needs,” she said.
Trustee Callaghan said that Beaches Energy is working to replace the poles and the light fixtures on Ponte Vedra Boulevard from numbers 694 to 829. They estimate they can replace about 20 lights every two weeks. Their goal is to convert all lights in the MSD by the end of 2026, which in total would be 350 lights. Beaches Energy is responsible for 7,000 streetlights in their service area, and emergency situations take precedence over all other projects.
“All we can do is be patient,” said trustee Callaghan.
Trustee Burch reported that the crosswalk project between San Juan and Ponte Vedra Boulevard will begin in two weeks and should be completed before Thanksgiving.
