The Municipal Service District (MSD) of Ponte Vedra Beach held its monthly meeting on Monday, Jan. 12. Due to renovations taking place at the Ponte Vedra Beach Library, the MSD meeting was held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.

Kim Odom, branch manager at the library, opened the meeting by informing the MSD board that the library renovations were on track, but that they may take a little bit longer than originally anticipated.

Odom also talked about some different programs that are currently taking place at the library, including St. Johns Reads. The book spotlighted by this event is “An Immense World” by Ed Yong. The library’s finale for this program will be a Silent Disco that will take place at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Jan. 24. There will be a family-friendly portion of the disco from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and an adults-only portion from 8 to 9:30 p.m.

Odom also informed community members about a new resource at the library called Library of Things. This resource allows guests to check out an assortment of items including a ukulele, board games, a bird-watching kit and more.

One resident in attendance who lives on Le Master Drive spoke about an issue involving street signs in the right of way.

“These signs are contributing to visual clutter along the street, and they are not having the impact needed to slow the cars down,” the resident said.

The board is aware of this issue and is planning to install two solar-powered speed limit signs on Le Master Drive.

The board also announced the ceremony for Deputy James Anderson that was to be held on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the flagpole at State Road A1A and Corona Road. Anderson was killed on Jan. 14, 2010, by a drunk driver as he was on his way to work. The 14th of January is now a day of remembrance in St. Johns County for law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
