What started as an investment in an Airbnb beach house blossomed into a beloved destination for weddings, memorials and life’s big milestones.
After Patricia Chambers met her now-husband, Seth Chambers, the two acquired a picturesque, two-story oceanfront property in Ponte Vedra Beach — the very same home Patricia Chambers once lived in.
The couple poured everything into transforming the property into a flexible event space and comfortable vacation rental.
“Since we're an Airbnb, we're allowed to have beach weddings because we obtain the beach permits for every wedding from St. Johns County,” Chambers explained.
The home, which can sleep up to 10 people, was recently renovated and repaired after the damage it sustained during Hurricane Nicole. Modern decor with a beachy, laid-back vibe greets guests as they enjoy unobstructed views of the Atlantic.
Though Chambers always sought to expand her property rental business, she credits a spiritual encounter for the idea to transform it into something more.
“My husband and I got the house on the beach, and I'm lying in bed one morning when suddenly there's a female angel standing beside my bed,” Chambers recalled. “She said to me, ‘You need to do more with your properties,’ and I said, ‘Like what?’ She told me ‘like weddings and such,’ and then she disappeared.”
The couple spun the venture into Destination Wedding Chicks, converting their by-day Airbnb property into a scenic getaway designed for unforgettable stays and beautiful weddings.
Destination Wedding Chicks offers packages that include various levels of service to accommodate various-sized weddings. They also assist with weddings all over Jacksonville and St. Augustine, whether at restaurants, castles, ballrooms or even the Fountain of Youth.
Packages for the Airbnb property include several nights at the house along with decor setup and breakdown, though higher-level packages also include photographers, DJs, wedding planners and more.
“I have everything, and if I don't already have it, I want it. I'll buy it,” Chambers said. “That's just who we are. We're trying to be financially mindful for everybody involved.”
It’s not just decor Chambers shares, as vendors who regularly work events at the property offer steep discounts to couples.
Although the Airbnb property isn’t a traditional venue, it has a strong following online. Their listing has hundreds of positive Airbnb reviews, and they’ve won multiple awards on The Knot, where they hold more than 65 five-star reviews and have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
A second event-friendly property on the river, known as Mister Heron's Estate, is currently in development.
