It’s 1962 in Baltimore and quirky, plus-sized, teenage Tracy Turnblad has one dream: to dance on “The Corny Collins Show.” Overnight, Tracy transforms from a nobody into a star and uses her newfound influence to advocate for racial integration on the television show.

This is the perfect end to Limelight’s Season 33 with big hair and big hope in “Hairspray.” The show runs July 18 to Aug. 10.

Established in 1992, Limelight is the only theatre company located in St. Augustine with its own building and year-round programming. In addition to presenting nine mainstage productions each season, Limelight offers classes and training for all ages and special events produced by the St. Augustine Film Festival and The St. Augustine Amphitheatre.

Limelight aims to be a nationally acclaimed theatre recognized for artistic innovation and excellence. Limelight has cultivated a diverse, multigenerational community of artists and supporters through intriguing storytelling and conservatory training. The programming educates, engages and showcases the importance of the arts and its contributions to society.

Since becoming the executive director in 2022, Sherrie Provence has sought to elevate the Limelight to a professional, regional theatre with a community heart, with the caliber of productions that make the Limelight Theatre a destination for those traveling to the Nation’s Oldest City.

Limelight serves a growing, loyal patronage of more than 20,000 annually and has been voted by Broadway World the best theatre in Northeast Florida two years in a row. With more than 200 volunteers, full audiences and popular educational opportunities, Limelight is a thriving center for arts and culture.
