Tell us about Jacksonville Organizer. What inspired you to start it?
Jacksonville Organizer is really the result of over 22 years of helping people reclaim their lives by reclaiming their space. I started the company in 2003, right in the thick of raising my two daughters, Alison and Rebecca.
What inspired me was the realization that “chaos” in the home isn’t usually a character flaw; it’s a systems failure. As an engineer, I couldn’t help but look at a cluttered pantry or a dysfunctional closet and see a bottleneck that needed to be solved. I wanted to take the high-level organizational principles I used in the corporate world and apply them to the places where people should feel the most at peace: their homes.
What started as a solo venture has grown into a partnership with my talented partner, Kristin, and a team of eight who help us transform lives every day.
Tell us about your background.
I’m an engineer by education, and I spent the early part of my career in technical sales and marketing. People are often surprised by that transition, but to me, professional organizing is just “domestic engineering.” Technical sales taught me how to listen to a client’s pain points and find a specific, scalable solution for them.
My engineering background allows me to look at a space three-dimensionally. I’m not just thinking about where the baskets go; I’m thinking about the ergonomics of the room, the “traffic flow” of the family and the durability of the systems we put in place. I don’t just want a room to look pretty for a photo; I want it to be functional for the client.
What do you like best about what you do?
It’s the “exhale.” There is a very specific moment at the end of a project where a client walks into their newly organized space, takes a deep breath and you can see the weight of the world drop off their shoulders.
I love that we provide mental clarity. When your physical environment is optimized, you have more bandwidth for your family, your career and your passions. Knowing that our systems help a busy mom get out the door five minutes faster or help a professional focus better in their home office is incredibly rewarding.
What is a typical day like for you?
A day in my life is a blend of logistics and boots-on-the-ground teamwork. While my role has evolved as the company has grown, I still make it a priority to spend significant time in the trenches with my team; I love being hands-on and staying closely connected to the physical transformation of a space.
Currently, I spend a lot of time on the product side of our projects. This involves the detailed process of specifying the exact organizational systems required for a client’s unique needs, managing the ordering of materials and orchestrating the planning and scheduling that ensures every project moves from concept to completion.
Both my partner and I are the coordinators for our projects, ensuring that the right products and the right experts arrive at the right time to create that “wow” moment for the client. It’s about ensuring the Jacksonville Organizer standard of excellence is met across every single job site.
Are you from this area originally?
I settled here, like so many people in our community, looking for the perfect place to raise a family. We were drawn to the Jacksonville area because of the unique balance it offers — the professional opportunities of a growing city combined with the coastal lifestyle.
Ponte Vedra Beach specifically felt like home immediately. It’s a place where the community is tight-knit, the schools are excellent and the pace of life allows you to actually enjoy the hard work you put into your career.
What do you like best about living here?
Aside from the obvious beauty of the beach, it’s the people. There is a sense of “refined relaxed” here. Whether I’m at the grocery store or a local event, there’s a friendliness and a support for local business that you don’t find everywhere.
I also love the proximity to everything, and as an avid tennis player, I enjoy the great weather and clubs that allow year-round playing. There is now an incredible dining scene, and of course, the water, all within a few miles of each other.
How do you like to spend your free time?
When I’m not in the middle of a project, I’m almost always active. I really do enjoy playing tennis and love the community and competition found on the court.
I’m also a lifelong reader and currently belong to two different book clubs; I find it’s a wonderful way to gain new perspectives and stay connected with friends.
Several years ago I was sponsored to join the Ponte Vedra Women’s Civic Alliance. It has been a wonderful experience in meeting new people, enjoying social activities, but more importantly, giving back to the community.
Travel is another big part of my life. I love exploring new places.
But truly, my favorite way to spend time is with my grown children. Anytime we can all get together is time well spent.
What’s next for you and Jacksonville Organizer?
We are always evolving to meet the needs of our clients by staying ahead of the latest trends. For example, in the last few years we expanded into photo organizing, helping clients manage everything from boxes and boxes of physical prints to massive digital libraries.
We also now offer holiday setup and take-down services, because we want to help our clients enjoy the magic of the season without the stress of the additional preparation. We are constantly looking for new, innovative ways to help our clients live more simply and beautifully. We never want to just stand still.
