Jazz, blues and funk concert planned

On Tuesday, March 21, The Friends of the Ponte Vedra Beach Library will present “Now is the Time,” with Earnie Ealum, bass; Matt Johns, guitar/sax/vocals; Mike Spottswood, piano; and Rick Kirkland, drums. It promises to be an outstanding evening of jazz, blues and funk.

Ealum has been performing in the Southeast for more than 30 years. He has been teaching upright and electric bass for 25 years and maintains a longtime studio in Jacksonville. He has worked at the Cloisters, Sea Island, and with such groups as The Platters, Michael W. Smith, Percy Sludge and Stanley Jorden. Johns has been performing since childhood. At 19, he was hired to play with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. He has performed with Tommy Dorsey, Buddy Morrow, Norm Lewis and many local bands. Johns plays with many premier ensembles such as River Town Band and the Bays Kings Band. He also plays trumpet. Kirkland is a consummate drum set artist and has performed around the world. He began his career with the Jacksonville Orchestra. He is a founding faculty member at the UNF Center for America Music.

The 6:30 p.m. concert is free to the public and will be in the FOL room at the library. Doors open at 6 p.m.
