May is National Mental Health Awareness Month, National Trauma Awareness Month and the month that includes National EMS Week (May 18-24), which means a convergence of observances that shine a spotlight on the mental health challenges faced by everyday people as well and those who serve and protect the communities.

Here Tomorrow, Northeast Florida’s no-cost, no-wait suicide-prevention and mental-health resource, is using this month to remind the entire community, and especially first responders, military members and veterans, that no-cost, confidential, peer-based support is available right now, with no insurance required, no referral needed and no waitlist.

The 2026 National Trauma Awareness Month theme, “Stay Focused. Stay Safe,” highlights how a single moment of distraction can lead to a life-altering injury and having mental resilience in the aftermath of this trauma.

National EMS Week, now in its 52nd year, is observed under the theme “Improving outcomes, together” honoring the paramedics, EMTs and emergency physicians who provide lifesaving care every day, often at great personal cost.

Here Tomorrow’s Military, Veterans & First Responder (MVFR) Program is staffed by specialists with lived experience in service and emergency response, people who understand the culture, the stress and the unspoken weight that comes with the job.

The program is led by Brannon Hicks, a retired police sergeant and survivor of suicide, who also hosts “Clearing the MindField,” a new weekly podcast featuring honest conversations with veterans, active duty members and first responders about mental health, healing and resilience.

Key features of the MVFR program include:

  • No-cost support available in person or virtually
  • Matching with a specialist who understands the realities of service life
  • Fully confidential — Here Tomorrow operates independently and does not report to employers, departments, agencies or command
  • No judgment regardless of discharge status
  • Dedicated phone/text line: 904-572-1700

Since 2021, Here Tomorrow’s certified recovery peer specialists have supported more than 4,000 individuals in crisis at absolutely no cost. Its mission is clear: to transform lives by building a community where suicide prevention is accessible without barriers.

Free support groups, including mental health hydration, held 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. every Monday and Thursday, are open to first responders, military members and the broader community year-round. No registration is required.

Here Tomorrow’s hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
