Goff Family Shelter to open

The Goff Family Shelter officially opens this month, marking a major expansion of emergency shelter services for families with minor children in St. Johns County. Located on the campus of St. Francis House, the new facility more than doubles St. Augustine Society’s capacity to serve families experiencing homelessness, increasing from 16 beds to 37 beds.

Made possible through a partnership with the City of St. Augustine, which designated the St. Augustine Society as a subrecipient of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding, along with the generosity of the Goff family and many community donors, the project has been years in the making and represents a significant investment in local families.

The shelter is named in honor of the Goff family, whose generosity and commitment to helping families in need played a pivotal role in bringing this vision to life. Their support reflects a belief that every child deserves a safe place to stay, and every family deserves the opportunity to regain stability during a time of crisis.

The expanded shelter increases the number of family rooms from four to nine private bedrooms and includes four bathrooms, a dedicated shower room, laundry facilities, a kitchenette and welcoming common area. As housing costs continue to rise, the Goff Family Shelter will help ensure more families have access to safe emergency shelter and the resources needed to move from crisis to stability and ultimately, permanent housing.
