From early mornings to national podiums: Nease NJROTC shines

Posted

This year, Allen D. Nease High School’s NJROTC program was defined by commitment, discipline, teamwork and pride. From early morning practices to community outreach events, cadets dedicated themselves not only to becoming better competitors, but also to becoming better leaders, teammates and members of the community. Throughout the year, the unit grew stronger together, building a family centered around accountability, hard work and service.

Since August, while most students were still asleep, cadets were already hard at work by 7:30 a.m. preparing for practices and competitions. Some focused on improving precision in air rifle, while others trained on the drill deck. The drill team — comprised of academics, athletics and both armed and unarmed routines — began mornings with physical training, pushing each other through every push-up, sit-up and sprint. Cadets were encouraged to give their best effort, and when someone struggled, the team came together to motivate them to keep going. Those early mornings built not only stronger performances, but stronger bonds between cadets as well.

After athletics, teams split off to focus on their individual events, where practices centered on precision and attention to detail. Every movement mattered, every correction mattered, and every repetition had a purpose. Whether cadets were on the drill deck, studying for academics, or practicing marksmanship, they understood that success came from consistency and effort. There were long practices, difficult corrections, and moments of frustration, but the unit continued pushing forward together with one goal in mind: representing Nease to the best of their ability.

That dedication paid off throughout the competition season. Nease earned its 12th consecutive regional title at Coffee County High School, continuing a tradition of excellence that has become a defining part of the program. Winning regionals was not just about trophies or placements — it reflected months of preparation, teamwork and determination. The victory gave the unit momentum and confidence heading into Drill Nationals.

With Nationals approaching, practices became even more intense. Cadets arrived earlier, stayed focused longer and worked harder than ever before to prepare for the national stage in Pensacola. Every extra minute mattered, and cadets understood the importance of giving their full effort in order to compete against some of the top NJROTC programs in the country.

While in Pensacola, cadets had the opportunity to watch the Blue Angels practice, witnessing firsthand the precision and discipline required at the highest level. Behind every flawless maneuver was constant correction, teamwork and attention to detail — the same values Nease had emphasized all year long. It reminded cadets that excellence is never accidental; it is earned through dedication and repetition.

That same discipline carried onto the competition floor. Facing teams from across the nation, Nease earned an impressive third-place finish in the country, proving once again that the unit could compete at the highest level. The accomplishment reflected not only the talent of the cadets, but also the countless hours of preparation and teamwork that brought them there.

However, NJROTC at Nease is about much more than competition. Throughout the year, cadets worked to support both veterans and the local community through outreach events and service opportunities. Whether participating in community events, helping honor veterans or volunteering their time to support others, cadets demonstrated the values of leadership and service that define the program.

These events allowed cadets to give back to the community that continually supports them and reminded everyone that NJROTC is not only about achievement, but also about character.

The unit also created lasting memories beyond practices and competitions. Through long bus rides, team dinners, outreach events, and time spent together after school, cadets formed friendships and connections that will last far beyond high school. The experiences shared throughout the year helped shape the unit into something more than just a program — it became a family.

For Nease, this year was about more than placements and awards. It was about growth, perseverance, leadership and pride in representing something bigger than oneself. Every early morning, every correction, every practice and every act of service contributed to the success of the unit. The accomplishments of this year were built long before anyone stepped onto a competition floor — they were built every day through hard work, teamwork and dedication.

No matter the challenge, the cadets of Allen D. Nease High School NJROTC continued to push forward together. That is what defines the program. All in all, we are Nease.
