Republican Randy Fine was elected U.S. representative for Congressional District 6 in a special election Tuesday. Fine replaces former U.S. Rep. Michael Waltz, who resigned in January to accept the national security adviser position in the administration of President Donald Trump.
Trump endorsed Fine.
Fine, of Melbourne Beach, received 110,764 votes in the district that includes parts of St. Johns, Flagler, Lake, Marion, Putnam and Volusia counties. He carried every one of those counties. Democrat opponent Josh Weil, of Orlando, received 83,485 votes.
In St. Johns County, Fine received 7,317 votes to Weil’s 5,902 votes.
Libertarian Party of Florida candidate Andrew Parrott, of Ocala, finished a distant third with 701 votes, 33 of which were cast in St. Johns County.
Randall Terry, no party affiliation, received 525 votes, 29 of which were cast in St. Johns County. Terry’s address, according to the St. Johns County Supervisor of Elections website, is in Arlington, Tennessee.
Write-in candidate Chuck Sheridan, of Merritt Island, received zero votes.
Parrott is the only candidate who lives in one of the counties included in District 6, though he is listed as a resident of Ocala, which is in District 3.
Melbourne Beach and Merritt Island are both in Brevard County (District 8). Orlando is in Orange County (District 10).
