The Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS), Florida Leaders in Lifesaving and Petco Love have announced that the Petco Love MEGA Pet Adoption Event exceeded its adoption goal. In just three days, 2,093 dogs and cats were adopted from more than 50 participating animal welfare organizations across the state of Florida.
According to the most recent nationwide data, Florida ranks 46th in the nation when it comes to saving the lives of pets in shelters. In 2024, 37,683 dogs and cats were euthanized in animal shelters across Florida. Thanks to Petco Love and thousands of adopters and fosters, more than 2,000 shelter dogs and cats are now in loving homes.
In Jacksonville, a regional adoption event featuring 12 local organizations was hosted at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds on June 28 and 29. At total 510 dogs and cats were adopted at this event.
“We are thrilled to celebrate the incredible success of this Petco Love Florida MEGA Pet Adoption Event, where more than 2,000 adoptable pets found loving homes,” said Susanne Kogut, Petco Love president. “This is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve when communities come together with compassion and purpose. Every pet adoption represents a new beginning for these pets. Thanks to the dedication of our animal welfare partners, thousands of lives have been changed forever. And it all begins with Love.”
“We are ecstatic for our community and the success of this event for all participating shelters,” said Lawrence Nicolas, JHS CEO. “Knowing that thousands of dogs and cats are now in loving homes thanks to the support of our sponsors, Petco Love, adoptive families, foster pet parents and volunteers, is truly heartwarming. This event came at a time when shelters are at maximum capacity, and these adoptions provide much-needed, lifesaving relief. Our community has proven time and again to be one of compassion and kindness for pets and the people who love them, and this event is just further proof.”
