Eric Turner is a key part of one of the most exciting developments in local sports in years, Sporting Jax.

Tell us about your business or your organization. What is your position and what are your responsibilities?

I work for Sporting Jax, a professional soccer organization committed to growing the game while strengthening our connection to the Jacksonville community. I serve as the operations and community relations manager, where I oversee match-day operations, event planning, community engagement initiatives and cross-department collaboration.

My role also includes coordinating with internal teams, external partners, municipalities and vendors to ensure every match day and community event is executed with intention, professionalism and pride.

What do you like best about what you do?

What I enjoy most is the ability to create meaningful experiences — both on and off the field. Whether it’s delivering a seamless game day, engaging youth and community partners or helping build a culture that people feel proud to be part of, I love knowing that my work contributes to something bigger than myself.

Sports have a unique power to unite people, and being part of that impact is incredibly fulfilling.

What is a typical day like for you?

No two days are ever the same, which is part of what I love.

A typical day may include operational planning meetings, site walks, coordinating logistics for upcoming matches, working with community partners, reviewing branding and presentation elements, and problem-solving in real time. On match days, it’s all hands on deck — focused on execution, fan experience, team needs and ensuring every detail aligns with our standards.

Tell us about your background, especially as it applies to your career or to your involvement with the organization described above.

I have over a decade of experience in sports operations, fan experience and event management. I’ve held leadership roles with organizations such as the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jacksonville Armada FC, Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens, and Jacksonville University Athletics.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in sports management and a master’s degree in communication management, which have helped shape my leadership style and strategic approach.

Each role has prepared me to lead with intention, adaptability and a strong emphasis on people and culture.

Are you from this area originally, or did you settle here from somewhere else? If the latter, what brought you to this community?

I’ve spent much of my life in Jacksonville, and it’s become home both personally and professionally. My career opportunities in sports and community-focused organizations, along with the relationships I’ve built here, have kept me deeply rooted in the city.

What do you like best about living here?

Jacksonville offers a unique blend of community pride, opportunity and growth. I love the city’s passion for sports, its strong sense of culture and history and the genuine support people show for one another. There’s also something special about being part of a city that continues to evolve while staying true to its roots.

How do you like to spend your free time?

In my free time, I enjoy attending sporting events, staying involved in the community and supporting local initiatives. I also value time spent reflecting, writing and recharging — whether that’s through faith, meaningful conversations, or simply being present with friends and family.
