Elder law series to begin Aug. 28

St. Johns County Legal Aid will hold a legal issues lecture series for elders every last Friday of the month at 10 a.m. from Aug. 28 until Nov. 20 at the River House Council on Aging, 179 Marine St. in St. Augustine.

The event, hosted by Megan Wall, managing attorney for St. Johns County Legal Aid, aims to educate seniors and their caregivers on the legal issues they often face. Despite the numerous legal challenges that arise for older adults, many are unaware of the protections they have or find the information hard to access.

“These lectures help people understand complex legal issues, one small bite at a time,” Wall said. “Knowledge is power. Empowering oneself with knowledge is the best way to combat fear, ignorance and insecurity, and it’s also the best defense against becoming a victim of scams.”

The monthly lecture series is offered throughout the year each year. The remaining lectures in 2026 are as follows:

  • Aug. 28: Is Probate a Dirty Word? What is it?
  • Sept. 25: Spouse in Nursing Home? Do You Have to Go Broke?
  • Oct. 30: Should You Ever Put Someone Else’s Name on Your Deed?
  • Nov. 20: How to Handle Your Kids on Legal Issues

All sessions are open to the public and free of charge.

St. Johns County Legal Aid invites all members of the community to attend these sessions to learn more about the legal landscape affecting our senior population.
