Downtown Ecumenical Services Council's Help Hub meeting community needs

Posted

Downtown Ecumenical Services Council (DESC) is often the first place people visit when they’re seeking help to make ends meet. In the heart of downtown Jacksonville, this faith-based organization seeks to uplift families and individuals in real-time crisis. When living paycheck to paycheck, even small things can create a crisis, leaving bills to mount quickly.

Serving thousands each year is an onsite food pantry and clothing center. Additional services include the Emergency Financial Assistance program, case management and the provision of steel-toed work boots which are often required for various training opportunities.

Once the immediate needs are met, DESC clients are now able to experience Help Hub, the organization’s newest initiative centered around building supportive relationships and offering guidance on how to navigate social service systems.

A staff community resource manager meets with individuals to help them consider future needs and advancement possibilities as well as available resources to support their pursuits. If DESC cannot meet a need, connections are made with trusted partners across the community.
