Donations sought for children’s library renovation

Imagine walking into the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library and finding a bright, welcoming Children’s Library — one with cozy reading nooks, flexible play spaces and areas dedicated to STREAM (science, technology, reading, engineering, art, math) exploration. This vision is becoming reality thanks to a major renovation project led by the Friends of the Library (FOL).

Why the Renovation Is Needed

For more than 32 years, the Children’s Library has been a cornerstone of the community where thousands of children have discovered the joy of books and learning. However, the space was designed for another era — before the explosion of hands-on STREAM learning, before collaborative workspaces and before the library became a hub for year-round children’s programming.

With the help of St. Johns County, FOL has committed more than $500,000 to transform the space into a modern learning environment. Plans include:

  • Bright, flexible spaces for reading, playing, and learning
  • Cozy nooks where parents and caregivers can share story time
  • Expanded STREAM programming space
  • Enhanced safety and visibility with a relocated service desk and open layout

A Community Effort

Generous donors have already given more than $52,000, bringing the project halfway to its minimum goal. But to make the full vision a reality — one that truly “colors the world” of every child who walks through the library’s doors — more community support is needed.

“This is an investment in our children’s future,” said Leslie Kleiman, FOL president. “When we create inspiring spaces for children to learn and explore, we strengthen the entire community.”
