Coastal Friends luncheon has garden party theme

Posted

Coastal Friends, a women’s social club, will hold a garden party-themed luncheon on Wednesday, March 4, at Marsh Landing Country Club. The luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 25655 Marsh Landing Parkway, Ponte Vedra Beach.

On Feb. 2, Punxsutawney Phil predicted six more weeks of winter, so Coastal Friends has decided to combat this cold weather by offering something “warm” in anticipation of spring. They are going to have fun and festive table decorations provided by The Social Society of Nocatee. They will also have theme-appropriate party favors at each place setting. Additionally, extra gift cards and special prizes will be given away. At this luncheon, attendees can either wear their normal attire, or they can don garden party attire with or without a hat or fascinator. The attendee with the best garden party attire will win a $50 Amazon gift card.

Coastal Friends will present Elizabeth Filippelli as its guest speaker. She is the conservation director and a board member of the Duval Audubon Society. She is well known in the region and has recently addressed the Ribault Garden Club, the Beaches Museum and works for the Timucuan Parks Foundation. It promises to be an engaging, science-based program about how we can better protect our migrating and local birds, and about her new bird conservation initiative. She will also share the native plants that birds love and how to turn your yard into a vital piece of habitat.

The luncheon menu consists of caesar salad, short ribs with red wine demi glaze, scalloped potatoes, zucchini and squash medley, and apple cobbler for dessert. The cost to attend is $25 and the luncheon is open to Coastal Friends members, guests and the community. Reservations must be made in advance by contacting the luncheon chairman ASAP at bartshar@comcast.net for this highly sought-after event. The deadline for checks to be received is before noon, Friday, Feb. 27, at the latest.

Established in 1998, Coastal Friends (formerly known as Newcomers Alumnae) is a social club comprised of women who live in Ponte Vedra Beach, Nocatee, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, St. Augustine, Jacksonville and the surrounding area.

Its members consist of women who have had a change in circumstances, are new to the area, recently retired, or just want to meet new people in a fun and welcoming environment.

Some of the activities offered are: adventures and outings, book club, bunco, canasta, happy hour, lunch in, lunch out, mah jongg, samba and wine socials. All of these activities allow women to foster friendships through social activities and have fun in the process.

Luncheons are held on the first Wednesday of every month at Marsh Landing Country Club except for July and August. Activities other than luncheons still occur during the summer. New members are welcome throughout the year.
