Victoria Balsamo is the featured artist for the month of June at Butterfield Garage Art Gallery. Her exhibit titled “Stones, Silver and Symbols,” showcases her love of stones and crystals and their spiritual meanings.
Born and raised on Long Island in New York, 12 miles from the New York City line, Balsamo moved to rural Ohio in her early 20s. It was there she spent most of her life and raised her daughter.
Six years of college, including NYU and Ohio State University, gave her two degrees, one in business and Spanish and the second in teaching. When she was 19, her fiancé, an artist, decided they should learn silversmithing, and they taught themselves. He soon lost interest but she forged on and really enjoyed creating unique jewelry pieces in silver and gold.
Balsamo’s love of stones and crystals and their spiritual meanings has grown over the years. Combined with universal symbols such as spirals, feathers, eternity symbols, peace signs, etc., her passion has allowed her to create long-lasting jewelry pieces that are meant to be enjoyed and passed down to dear ones.
Balsamo owned a Native American and crystal store in Ohio for 42 years and has had a booth at the Saturday Farmer’s Market at the St. Augustine Amphitheater for 14 years. She joined the Butterfield Garage Gallery in October of 2025. Balsamo enjoys being part of this vibrant and talented group of artists.
“Stones, Silver and Symbols” opens on the First Friday Artwalk, June 5. Visit with Balsamo between 5 and 8 p.m. to talk about stones, symbols and silver and receive a free piece of stone or sea glass wrapped in copper or brass.
