Atlantic Beach calls for artists

Posted

The City of Atlantic Beach is inviting artists and artist teams to submit proposals for a permanent patriotic public art installation at the newly constructed Marsh Oaks Community Center, located at 100 W. First St.

The city seeks an artist or artist team to create a visual landmark that fosters civic pride, honors local military service members and celebrates the natural beauty of coastal Florida. Proposed concepts should blend stylized American flag imagery; civic keywords such as Honor, Service and Sacrifice; and local wildlife motifs like the bald eagle. Reference imagery is provided with the Call for Artists; while proposed designs may draw inspiration from the example, adherence to it is not required.

Because of Atlantic Beach’s coastal climate, proposed materials must demonstrate high durability against salt air, humidity and intense sunlight.

The overall proposed price tag will be a critical determining factor in the selection process. The city strongly encourages artists of all experience levels and budget scales — from emerging talent to established public creators — to submit proposals.

Submission and eligibility details:

  • Eligibility: Open to professional, amateur and student artists (age 18 and older) living, working or studying in Duval, St. Johns or Nassau counties. A demonstrated connection to Atlantic Beach is considered a plus.
  • Selection criteria: Submissions will be evaluated by a review committee of residents and city staff, with final approval by the city manager.
  • Deadline: Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, by 5 p.m.
  • Project completion target: November 2026.

Interested artists must submit a single PDF containing an artist statement, resume and a five-image portfolio to info@coab.us with the subject line “Call for Artists: Marsh Oaks Community Center.”
