Ascension St. Vincent’s St. Johns County to add Family Birth Place

Posted

Ascension St. Vincent’s St. Johns County is planning to open its Family Birth Place by summer 2027, providing comprehensive labor and delivery care close to home for northern St. Johns County families.

The 27,000-square-foot expansion will feature modern, family-centered maternity care designed to support both mother and baby from delivery through postpartum recovery. It will include 14 private, spacious delivery suites with accommodations for loved ones. It will also feature a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with four fully private rooms and dedicated family lounge for NICU patients.

It will be constructed on a single floor with the infrastructure to support future expansion as community needs continue to grow.

“Families in St. Johns County deserve access to exceptional maternity care in their own community,” said Sean McAfee, interim president and CEO of Ascension St. Vincent’s St. Johns County. “This new Family Birth Place reflects our continued commitment to serving our fast-growing county with compassionate, personalized care rooted in our mission.”

The addition addresses a growing need for maternity services in St. Johns County, where rapid population growth and an increasing number of young families continue to drive demand for expanded health care access. The county’s population is expected to double by 2050, according to the county’s comprehensive plan.

“Ascension St. Vincent’s is committed to increasing access to high-quality services for mothers and babies throughout Northeast Florida," said Scott Kashman, interim market lead for Ascension St. Vincent’s. “This project will complement our Family Birth Places at our Southside and Clay County hospitals, providing comprehensive care that’s close to home for families throughout the region.”
