Annual Match Challenge doubles donations for residents in need

The LJD Jewish Family & Community Services (JFCS) has announced the launch of its annual Match Challenge. Starting in August and continuing through September, every dollar donated to the Max Block Food Pantry will be matched by the Block family, doubling the impact of every contribution.

This challenge helps the families JFCS serves. The need for food in the Jacksonville community has grown exponentially. The Max Block Food Pantry served 31,652 people last fiscal year, seeing almost 65 to 75 people each day.

In addition to the Match Challenge, JFCS has announced the successful completion of its pantry renovations. The space is now doubled in size, with more shelf space, increased refrigerator capacity, a new walk-in freezer, a kosher shelf and a pet supply shelf. Additionally, JFCS brings its food services out into the community through mobile, pop-up pantries at two local middle schools and two daycare centers.

“We served 8,111 households last fiscal year,” said Donna O’Steen, JFCS food programs and volunteer specialist. “That includes adults, children and seniors. The need is far greater than most people realize, and it’s happening right here in our community.”

All monetary donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar. Aside from the challenge, JFCS also welcomes donations of non-perishable food items. To learn more, go to JFCSJax.org.
