Underwood’s hosts PGA Tour wives for fifth annual luncheon

Last week, with the eyes of the professional golf world focused on TPC Sawgrass, the golfers of the PGA Tour spent Wednesday, May 9 preparing for one of the toughest tournaments in the sport: THE PLAYERS Championship. While the players practiced their putting, however, their wives indulged in a special luncheon and jewelry preview hosted by Underwood Jewelers in Ponte Vedra Beach.

An annual private event Underwood’s hosts specially for the PGA Tour Wives Association, the luncheon — now in its fifth year — featured cocktails, food from Table 1 and a private viewing of the Dao Fournier jewelry collection. In addition, the event included a Mother’s Day-themed preview of the life-styling services of Centerpieces — a West Palm Beach-based company co-founded by Krista Glover, wife of golfer Lucas Glover.

“I started the business about two months ago,” Glover said. “We do life-styling for women, and that incorporates wardrobe, home and some small celebrations and event planning. So, we came in and we were able to use all these amazing things that Underwood’s has in their store to pull together different Mother’s Day looks.”

Dedicated to supporting children in need, members of the PGA Tour Wives Association actively engage in community outreach and fundraising initiatives throughout the year. Included in those initiatives is the annual Underwood’s luncheon and trunk show, from which a portion of the proceeds this year will benefit Hubbard House in Jacksonville, in addition to the association’s various other outreach programs.

“There’s just so much of (our lives) that goes back to the husbands, what they’re doing day-in and day-out, so it’s kind of nice to have our own little stuff going on, and it’s fun to get our girlfriends together,” said Lucy Price, wife of golfer Aron Price.

Co-creator of the Dao Fournier collection with her sister Kimberly Gibson, Price noted that proceeds from past years have totaled more than $20,000, and that the annual fundraiser serves as a means for her and the other PGA Tour wives to give back to both the community and Underwood’s.

“The girls come in, they get to see the newest pieces, and kind of give thanks to Underwood’s for being so generous and supportive,” she said.

As for Underwood’s, Store Manager John Rutkowski said it was not only his pleasure, but also his responsibility to give back to his community.

“How I always feel with THE PLAYERS coming into town is that we embrace the tournament, we embrace the players and their wives and families, and this is our way of showing them that we appreciate them coming here,” he said. “And partnering with Dao Fournier, we’re able to have this trunk show to raise money for local charities like the Hubbard House and the charities of the PGA Tour wives. … We feel that it’s our obligation to give back to the community that supports us, and over here at the beach, people do support the businesses that support charities that touch their lives, so it’s a win-win.”
