In a notable demonstration of community, the MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation hosted its annual Thanksgiving Sorting Event on Tuesday, Nov. 21, bringing together 150 dedicated volunteers. The purpose of the event was to organize and sort Thanksgiving non-perishable food donations, ensuring that 100 families in the 32209 ZIP code served by the foundation would receive a warm Thanksgiving dinner for their whole family.

SE Grocers/Winn-Dixie, the foundation's largest food donor for the event, supplied eight pallets of food. This substantial contribution reinforces both organizations' dedication to community well-being and the mission of the foundation in supporting these residents.

The Thanksgiving Sorting Event hosted a diverse group of volunteers, including community members, local businesses and foundation supporters. Their collective efforts demonstrated the power of community engagement and the shared commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

“We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming support from our volunteers and the generous contribution from our community and SE Grocers/Winn-Dixie,” said Terri Florio, executive director. “This event showcases the strength of our community when we come together to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need.”

The MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation is an after-school and summer youth development program in Jacksonville’s urban core that promotes academic achievement and positive life skills. Its mission is to develop champions in classrooms, on tennis courts and throughout communities.
