Students, families brighten hospice with birdhouses

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the students and families of Jacksonville Country Day School (JCDS) recently came together to paint and hang birdhouses outside the inpatient rooms of Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. The collaborative effort brought joy to patients and their families, offering a colorful touch outside their windows during challenging times.

On a bright and sunny day, JCDS volunteers gathered to lend their artistic talents to a collection of 16 birdhouses. These blank canvases transformed into vibrant, eye-catching pieces of art over the weekend, thanks to the dedication and creativity of the children and their families. Each birdhouse became a unique piece of art, reflecting the personalities and styles of those who painted them.

“It makes me really happy because it's good to do things for others and not just yourself,” said JCDS first grader Hendrick Ciuraru. “I hope they (the people at Community Hospice of Northeast Florida) see lots of birds!”

Ashley Howell, manager of volunteer services at Community Hospice, was present to witness the enthusiasm and goodwill of the JCDS families the day the birdhouses were delivered to the center. She expressed her excitement at having these colorful birdhouses placed outside the patient rooms, knowing they would bring comfort and smiles to those undergoing treatment and their loved ones. The birdhouses serve as a symbol of hope and the beauty of life.

This heartwarming project is not a one-time effort for JCDS. In fact, it marks the school's third year of collaboration with Community Hospice. Each year, they replace the birdhouses from the previous year to ensure that the area maintains its vibrant and welcoming appearance. This commitment to bringing color and cheer to the lives of hospice patients has been called a testament to JCDS' dedication to community service and the well-being of others.

The JCDS students and their families look forward to continuing this annual tradition as they spread warmth and positivity in the years to come.
