Students earn degrees, named to academic lists

Several area students have been recognized for academic success at their respective colleges and universities.

Dean's List

  • Frederick Herx of St. Augustine was named to the summer 2023 dean's list at Palmer College of Chiropractic's Florida Campus in Port Orange.
  • Regina Forrest Mills and Dervin Leiba, both of St. Augustine, were named to the summer 2023 dean’s list at Southern New Hampshire University.

Director’s list

Avery Atwood of St. Augustine, who attends Tocoi Creek High School, was named to the summer 2023 director’s list at The University of Alabama.

President's List

The following students were named to the summer 2023 president’s list at Southern New Hampshire University: Kristina Rodriguez of Jacksonville; and Ashley Zimmerman, Vincent Pramagioulis, Kimberly Scott, Jeremy Stanberry, Brittani Paulk, Paris Cagle, Poet Foxx, Keara Onufrak, Edgar Rodriguez, Yolanda Perdomo, Ezul-Deen Salifu, Haley Hourihan, Annette Hobby and Ryan Shaffer, all of St. Augustine.

Phi Kappa Phi inducts new members

The following students were recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi: Bella Pantfoeder of Jacksonville Beach and Julia Godley of Ponte Vedra.

Burgess among gymnasts to earn Scholastic All-America honors

University of Alabama gymnastics was named a 2023 Scholastic All-America team and saw 16 gymnasts earn individual Scholastic All-America honors, according to the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association. Ella Burgess of Ponte Vedra was among the Tide's 2023 Scholastic All-Americans.

Local students graduate from University of Mississippi

More than 900 students graduated from the University of Mississippi in August 2023. Among them were:

  • Emily Monaghan of St. Augustine, who majored in sport analytics and received a Master of Science.
  • Brett Schell of St. Augustine, who majored in marketing and received a Bachelor’s Degree in business administration.

Banton earns degree at MTSU's summer 2023 commencement

Marley Banton of St Augustine was among nearly 800 graduates who received their degrees during Middle Tennessee State University's summer 2023 commencement. Banton earned a Bachelor of Science in leisure and sport management.

Alvarez coaches budding STEM scholars

This summer, eight New York Institute of Technology students representing the School of Architecture and Design, the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences, and the College of Arts and Sciences spread out across the university's New York City and Long Island campuses to coach at this year's New York Tech Middle School Summer Maker Academy. Among these students was Devin Alvarez from St. Augustine, who is studying electrical and computer engineering.

Long awarded degree from UA

Victoria Long of St. Augustine has received a Master of Science degree from The University of Alabama.
