St. Johns County to offer summer camps, activities for kids

Over the next few months, St. Johns County’s Parks and Recreation Department is offering a handful of camps and events for local kids. Here are some of those opportunities for your youngsters looking for fun activities as we head into the summer.  

SJC Exploration Summer Camp

Date: July 23-27 for ages 5-8 (completed kindergarten) and July 30-Aug. 3 for ages 9-12

Time: 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Location: Ketterlinus Gym, 60 Orange St. in St. Augustine

Details: St. Johns County’s park naturalists will host a weeklong Exploration Camp enabling children to explore the natural world around them. Campers will have an exciting week chock-full of field trips, while expanding their understanding of local ecosystems, sustainability and how to collect and analyze data like a scientist. Kids’ Beach Yoga

Date: Friday, June 15

Time: 4-4:45 p.m.

Location: Frank B. Butler Park East, 5860 A1A South in St. Augustine

Details: Participants will learn how to relax their mind and body with some simple, kid-friendly stretches, exercises and activities. Parent & Child Fitness in the Park

Date: Saturday, June 2 and Saturday, June 23

Time: 9-10:30 a.m.

Location: Hastings Park, corner of W. Holtz Street and North Main Street in Hastings

Details: Participants will do sit-ups and push-ups, walk and run together as families. Attendees should bring water and athletic wear. For more information, contact Willie Cooper at (904) 209-0395 or wcooper@sjcfl.us.

 

Parents Night Out at Trout Creek

Date: Friday, May 4

Time: 6-9 p.m.

Location: Trout Creek Community Center, 6795 Collier Road in St. Augustine

Details: Parents can enjoy a well-deserved break while their kids have a night full of fun playing games, eating pizza and watching a movie. The theme for the night is “Sports Night” and kids are encouraged to wear apparel from their favorite sports team or player. Registration is open now until the event. The cost is $20 for the first child, $10 for each additional child (per family) and is open to kids ages 6 to 13. Story Time at Trout Creek

Date: May 10 and 24

Time: 11 a.m. to noon

Location: Trout Creek Community Center, 6795 Collier Road in St. Augustine

Details: St. Johns County Parks and Recreation has partnered with the Library to bring story time to Trout Creek. An interactive opportunity for parents and their preschoolers, story time will be filled with learning and fun as well as crafts and other activities. No registration is required.
