Two St. Johns County’s constitutional officers submitted their tentative budgets for Fiscal Year 2024 on Tuesday during the regular meeting of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners. No action was required by the board.

The Sheriff’s Office submitted a request for $118,103,134, an increase over last year of $12,955,450 or 12%. The Supervisor of Elections submitted a request for $4,069,055, a 20.67% increase over last year.

Because the Tax Collector is fee-based, it was not required to submit a budget at this time. The Property Appraiser and Clerk of Courts will make their presentations at the June 20 meeting.

The Sheriff’s proposed budget includes $2,575,774 for the bailiff, $29,410,621 for corrections and $86,116,739 for law enforcement.

In addition, there was a request of $1,462,994 for E-911.

The Supervisor of Elections proposal includes $2,494,500 for the department and $1,574,555 for the elections budget. County residents will go to the polls three times in 2024: the presidential preference primary on March 19, the primary on Aug. 20 and the general election on Nov. 5.

The fiscal year begins Oct. 1.
