Sara Atkinson has been promoted to lead veterinary nurse/internal medicine at the Southeast Veterinary Oncology and Internal Medicine (SEVO-Med) Beach Boulevard location, which specializes in progressive treatment of pet cancer and provides specialty diagnostics and treatment for internal diseases in pets. Atkinson joined SEVO-Med in 2016 as an internal medicine nurse.

Atkinson started in the veterinary field in 2002 as a 17-year-old veterinary assistant at the Jacksonville Humane Society. After taking time off to be a stay-at-home mother, she joined the Lakewood Animal Clinic in 2010 as a veterinary technician and was subsequently promoted to practice manager at the clinic. Over the last two years, Atkinson has worked at Ponte Vedra Animal Hospital as a veterinary technician.

“Ponte Vedra Animal Hospital always had a great relationship with SEVO-Med," Atkinson said. "So when the position became available for an internal medicine nurse, there was no hesitation."

Atkinson has attended multiple continuing education courses online and attends conferences to further her knowledge of internal medicine. Earlier this year, she became CPR certified in small animal basic life support and advanced life support.
